The Art of Continuity

A WORKSHOP ON THE ART OF CONTINUITY

with Richard Seyd, Director of Seydways Acting Studios

Hi,
It’s been a while since I been in touch. I have been working on a way to stop continuity on set being an obligation and instead allowing it to become an essential part of your creative process. The core of this approach is about understanding that physical actions can be a way of deepening how you reveal the inner life of your character and the story of the scene. The workshop will also illuminate and enable you to viscerally experience how physical actions affect how you feel just as much as how you feel affects what you do.

Each participant will be working on a scene provided by me.

The class will probably fill up quickly so you should contact me ASAP if you are interested. Even if you can’t do it can you pass this on to your actor friends.

All the best,
Richard

Crucial to acting, continuity means performing the same physical actions identically in every take. Actors who can’t internalize their continuity get a troublesome reputation very quickly.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

To understand how to use continuity creatively in your performance on set changes how you prepare for the shoot. All Directors, DP’s and Editors understand the crucial importance of continuity, actors rarely do. They often see it as an impediment to the spontaneity of their performance.

For the actor who does even consider continuity it is usually felt as an obligation. In this workshop Richard will share with you a different way of looking at continuity so you can fully integrate the physical actions before you come to set.

The core of this approach is about understanding that physical actions are a way of deepening how you can reveal the inner life of your character and the story of the scene. The workshop will also illuminate and enable you to viscerally experience how physical actions affect how you feel just as much as how you feel affects what you do.

You will prepare and work on a scene provided by Richard in the course of the workshop.
